In vitro study | Tinidazole killed metronidazole-sensitive strains at low MLC, but was only effective against 4 of 12 metronidazole-resistant strains. Tinidazole exhibits activity against the following species, pathogenic protozoa (e. G., Tricbomonas vaginalis, Entamoeba bistolytica, Giardia duodenalis), a wide range of clinically significant anaerobic bacteria (e. G., Bacteroides fragilis, Clostridium difficile) and microaerophilic Helicobacter pylori. In sensitive protozoan and bacterial cells, Tinidazole is reduced to a cytotoxic intermediate, which is covalently bound to DNA, resulting in irreversible cellular damage. Tinidazole inhibited 104 isolates of T. vaginalis with an average MLC of 1014.9 μm. Tinidazole affects the morphology, compliance and feasibility of trophozoites to Giardia duodenalis. Tinidazole was active against 40 Clostridium difficile,10 Prevotella bivia and 11 Bacteroides fragilis clinical isolates, and the mean MIC of Tinidazole and metronidazole were: C. difficile,0.31 μg/mL and 0.28 μg/mL;P. bivia,2.33 μg/mL and 1.52 μg/mL;B. fragilis,0.5 μg/mL and 0.71 μg/mL. |
