3,5-= methyl-2-hydroxymethyl-4-methoxypyridine is chlorinated to give 2-chloromethyl -3.5-= methyl -4-methoxypyridine. In addition, 4-methoxy -1.2-Phenylenediamine and potassium xanthate were reacted to obtain 2-mercapto-5-methoxybenzodiazole, which was then reacted with the pyridine derivative obtained above, 2-[(3,5-methyl -4-methoxy -2-pyridyl) methylthio] 5-methoxy -1H-benzimidazole was obtained, and finally in chloroform, oxidation with M-chloroperbenzoic acid gives omeprazole. The crude omeprazole can be recrystallized from acetonitrile.

developed by Merck and Astra, Sweden, and launched in Sweden in February 1988. It is a new anti-peptic ulcer drug whose mechanism of action is different from that of H2 receptor antagonism. It acts on gastric mucosal parietal cells, reducing the activity of hydrogen potassium ATPase in parietal cells, thereby inhibiting basal gastric acid and gastric acid secretion caused by stimulation. It has a strong and long-lasting effect of inhibiting basal gastric acid and gastric acid resolution caused by food and pentapeptide gastrin. The effect is rapid, reversible, and no H2 receptor antagonist induced psychiatric side effects. For gastric and duodenal ulcer, reflux esophagitis and gastrinoma. Mainly suitable for duodenal ulcer and Zhuoyi AI syndrome, can also be used for gastric ulcer and reflux esophagitis.
