tetraethyl-sulfamide - Introduction
N,N,N',N'-traethylsulfamide is an organic compound with the chemical formula [(C2H5)2NH2]2SO. The following is a description of its nature, use, preparation and safety information:
Nature:
N,N,N',N'-tetraethylsulfamide is a colorless liquid with a slight pungent odor. It is soluble in most organic solvents (such as ethanol, ether, etc.), but insoluble in water. It has a density of about 0.918 g/mL, a boiling point of 120-125°C and a flash point of 47°C.
Use:
N,N,N',N'-tetraethylsulfamide is widely used in chemical synthesis and organic synthesis reactions. It can be used as a solvent, catalyst and complexing agent. One of the most common applications is as a catalyst for hydrogenation reactions, used to catalyze the reduction or hydrogenation of organic compounds. In addition, it can also be used to catalyze coupling reactions, sulfurization reactions, etc.
Method:
The method of preparing N,N,N',N'-traethylsulfamide generally involves the reaction of ethanolamine with sulfur phosphorus trichloride. First, under an inert atmosphere, sulfur phosphorus trichloride is slowly added to the ethanolamine while maintaining the temperature at 0-5°C. After completion of the reaction, the product was obtained by addition of concentrated sulfuric acid and washing with water. Finally, it can be purified by distillation.
Safety Information:
N,N,N',N'-tetraethylsulfamide is less toxic to humans under normal conditions. However, it is still an irritant, and exposure to or inhalation of its vapors may cause eye and respiratory discomfort. Therefore, appropriate personal protective equipment such as goggles and respiratory protection should be worn during operation. In addition, long-term contact with the skin should be avoided, and attention should be paid to fire and explosion prevention. For any laboratory chemicals, always keep them properly and use them in accordance with the relevant safety procedures.
