oct-2-ynal - Introduction
2-Octanal, also known as octanal (Octanal), is an organic compound. Its chemical formula is C8H16O, and there is an aldehyde group (-CHO) in the structure.
2-Octanal is a colorless liquid with a strong oily or fruity aroma. It has a density of 0.83g/cm³, a melting point of -17°C and a boiling point of 193°C. 2-Octanal is soluble in ether and alcohol solvents, and is miscible with many organic solvents.
In industry, 2-octanal is mainly used as a raw material for flavors and fragrances. Because of its oil or fruit flavor, it is often used in the manufacture of fruit, food and cosmetic spices, and can also be used to make strong perfumes. In addition, 2-octanal can also be used as an intermediate for metal surface treatment, and is widely used in plastics, textiles, inks, coatings and lubricants.
There are two main ways to prepare 2-octanal: aldehyde esterification and oxidation. The aldehyde-forming method is generally obtained by reacting an alcohol with an acid catalyst such as lithic acid or aluminum acetate. The oxidation method often uses the oxidation reaction of cyclohexane to obtain 2-octanal catalyzed by oxidizing agents such as chromium, manganese, PCC (pyridine chromate) or manganese dioxide.
For safety information, 2-octanal has a certain volatility and may be irritating to the respiratory system and eyes. During use, care should be taken to prevent inhalation of vapors and avoid contact with skin and eyes. If exposed, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical help. In addition, 2-octanal should be kept away from fire sources and stored in a cool, dry and well-ventilated place.
