Physical and Chemical PropertiesWhite monoclinic crystalline or amorphous powder. The composition is generally expressed as xMgCO3. yMg(OH)2. zH2O. Soluble in acid and ammonium salt solution, in the case of dilute acid decomposition of carbon dioxide. When heated above 300 °c, it decomposes to produce water, carbon dioxide, and magnesium oxide.

Abstract:

The Basic Magnesium carbonate was prepared by ammonium bicarbonate precipitation method with magnesium sulfate solution which was obtained from the light-burned magnesium powder obtained by the calcination of magnesium ore, products with different molecular structures were obtained, and the molecular formula of the product obtained at 60-90 ℃ can be expressed as Mg5(CO3)4(OH)2 · 8H2O, the molecular formula of the product obtained by pyrolysis above 95 ℃ is Mg5(CO3)4(OH)2 · 4H2O. In this study, by adding a certain amount of ammonia in the precipitation process, to achieve the purpose of controlling the content of magnesium oxide products, at 60 ℃, the pyrolysis of magnesium oxide products was 43.5%, at the same time, the precipitation rate of magnesium sulfate solution is more than 88%. In addition, the surface morphology of the products under different preparation conditions is observed by scanning electron microscope, it is found that the product obtained at 60-90 ℃ is whisker-type crystal, and the product obtained by pyrolysis above 95 ℃ is flaky crystal, and ammonia water is added in the precipitation process, the product obtained by pyrolysis at 60 ° C. Is a crystal mixed with whiskers and flakes.

Abstract:

The formation mechanism of Basic Magnesium carbonate prepared by carbonation method and soda ash method was studied. It was found that there was a precursor state of Basic Magnesium carbonate Mg(CO3)4(OH)2 · 4H2O. Using chemical analysis, IR,XRD to study it, found that the former Fengtai area phase is Mg5(CO3)4(OH)2 · 8H2O instead of the reported Mg5(CO3)4(OH)2 · 5H2O, the difference is that it contains more water molecules.
