Preparation
Preparation of lithium sulfide: Put sulfur powder into a tetrahydrofuran solution containing lithium triethylborohydride, and after sufficient reaction, separate the solid powder from the liquid.
Production method
It is directly combined by simple substance, that is, stoichiometric lithium and sulfur are mixed, heated to melt in an inert atmosphere (argon or helium) in a nickel crucible, and a uniform melt can be formed.
Lithium sulfate can also be reduced with carbon powder.
Take a mixture of 100g lithium sulfate and 436g carbon powder and heat it in an electric furnace to form a homogeneous melt.
This product is very soluble in water, lithium hydroxide and lithium hydrosulfide are formed in the aqueous solution, which is strongly alkaline:
Li2S H2OLiOH LiHS
Hydrochloric acid and lithium sulfide react quickly when cold to produce hydrogen sulfide and lithium chloride:
Li2S HClLiCl 2H2S
