Introduction | 1-(pyrimidin-4-yl) ethanone is an organic intermediate, it has been reported in the literature that it can be prepared from pyrimidine and acetaldehyde or triacetaldehyde. |
preparation method | completed to vigorously stirred ice-cold (10-20°C) sulfuric acid (4m) in 30 minutes, to a solution of acetaldehyde (8g,180 mmol), pyrimidine (2.4g,30 mmol) in CH2Cl2(180 mL) was added dropwise with 70% tert-butyl hydroperoxide (180 mmol). And a 180 aqueous solution containing iron (II) sulfate heptahydrate (50g, 150 mmol). The reaction mixture was stirred at 10 °c. After 1.5 H, the organic phase was separated and the solvent was extracted with dichloromethane (3 x ml). The organic phases were combined and the solvent was evaporated in a rotary evaporator to give an oil. Flash chromatography was performed using dichloromethane as eluent to obtain a purified product. |
