overview | 3-decylthiophene is a heterocyclic organic compound that can be used as an intermediate in organic synthesis. |
preparation | 3-decylthiophene is prepared as follows: 1.2mol of magnesium metal and 1.2 mol1-bromodecane are mixed in 100% 2-methyltetrahydrofuran solvent, and 300mg(1, 3-bis (diphenylphosphino) propane) nickel chloride (II) catalyst is present. The concentration of Grignard reagent in the solvent is 2.6mol/L. Then, 3-bromothiophene (1 equivalent) was added to the flask. The reaction was carried out at room temperature. Immediate gas chromatographic analysis of the reaction products showed 27.1% 3-bromothiophene, 30.0% 3-decylthiophene and 0.9% bisthienyl by-products. GC after 1 hour showed 0.0% 3-bromothiophene, 92.6% 3-decylthiophene and 2.3% bisthienyl by-products. GC after 2.5 hours showed 0.0% 3-bromothiophene, 94.6% 3-decylthiophene and 1.9% bisthienyl by-products. |
