2-METHYL-3-PHENYL-OXIRANE - Introduction
2-methyll-3-phenyl-oxirane (2-methyll-3-phenyl-oxirane), often abbreviated as methylbenzene epoxy (MPO), is an organic compound. It has the chemical formula C9H10O and has one epoxy group and one methyl group.
The following are the properties of 2-METHYL-3-PHENYL-OXIRANE:
1. Appearance and smell: colorless liquid, with sweet fragrance.
2. Boiling Point: about 192-194 C.
3. Density: about 0.99 g/cm.
4. Solubility: Soluble in many organic solvents, such as ethanol, ethers and esters.
2-METHYL-3-PHENYL-OXIRANE is mainly used as a catalyst and intermediate in organic synthesis. It can be used as a monomer for epoxy resins in the manufacture of adhesives, coatings and composites. In addition, it can also be used as raw materials for pharmaceuticals and pesticides.
There are two main methods for preparing 2-methyll-3-phenyl-oxirane. One is through the epoxidation reaction, the phenyl propylene is reacted with the peroxide to obtain the product. Another method is epoxidation of phenylacetone to obtain the desired product.
2-METHYL-3-PHENYL-OXIRANE is potentially dangerous in terms of safety. It may be irritating and corrosive, so relevant safety guidelines should be followed when using or handling it. Proper protective equipment, ventilation and personal protection are necessary. In addition, it should be stored in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place, and away from fire and oxidizing agents.
