triphenyl(propyl)phosphonium - Introduction
Propyltriphenylphosphonium iodide (TPP-I) is an organophosphorus compound with the following properties:
Nature:
- TPP-I is a colorless to yellowish crystal with a strong pungent odor.
-It is stable at room temperature and will not spontaneously ignite or deteriorate in the air.
- TPP-I is soluble in most organic solvents.
Use:
- TPP-I is used as a source of iodine in organic synthesis and can react with other organic compounds, such as electrophilic substitution, alkylation and coupling reactions.
-It is usually used for the synthesis of organometallic compounds, phosphorus esters and phosphate esters.
- TPP-I can also be used as catalysts and ligands.
Method:
The method for producing TPP-I is usually obtained by reacting triphenylphosphine with iodine in an organic solvent such as ethanol. The reaction may be carried out at room temperature or by heating.
