overview
Quinol dimethacrylate is a water-soluble vitamin E. Water-soluble vitamins are a class of organic compounds that are indispensable and less in demand to maintain normal human life activities. Quinol dimethacrylate can be prepared from 1, 4-dihydroxy-2, 3, 5-trimethylbenzene, formalin aqueous solution and methyl methacrylate as starting materials.
Preparation
In a 200 mL glass container equipped with a condenser, 16.7g(59.1 mmol CCM, chemical purity: 93.5%) was added to the CCM prepared as above, 16.7g of methanol, 3.3g(82.5mmol) of NaOH and 50g of water were added, and the mixture was hydrolyzed at 80°C under nitrogen atmosphere. Stir under stirring for one hour. The reaction solution was filtered at the same temperature to remove the insoluble matter, and then added dropwise to the acidic solution within one hour, which was obtained by dissolving 11.7g(85.9mmol) of potassium bisulfate in 50g of water. Trolox has shown to protect mammalian cells from oxidative damage. Trolox is effective in preventing myocyte necrosis in cell culture studies and in a canine model of two hours of left anterior descending coronary artery (LAD) occlusion followed by four hours of reperfusion.
Trolox could prevent oxidative stress-induced apoptosis in thymocytes. Pre- or posttreatment of cells with Trolox reduced H 2 O 2 -induced DNA fragmentation to control levels and below. .
Trolox is a hydrophilic analogue of alpha-tocopherol and reported to scavenge peroxyl radicals better than vitamin E in sodium dodecyl sulfate micelles and in liposomes. Trolox prolongs substantially the survival of human ventricular myocytes and hepatocyte against oxyradicals generated with xanthine oxidase plus hypoxanthine, and prevented lysis of red cells exposed to an azo-initiator.
