| Overview | Triethyl boron, tri-n-butyl boron, tri-isobutyl boron, tri-tert-butyl boron, these compounds are colorless liquids and need to be operated under nitrogen flow. In particular, triethylboron [(C2H5)3B] will catch fire immediately when it comes into contact with air, so be very careful when operating. Trialkyl boron with long alkane chain will not react so violently in the air, such as tricyclohexane boron. The boiling point of these liquids is similar to the corresponding hydrocarbons that replace boron atoms with carbon atoms. For example,(C2H5)3B has a boiling point of 95°C;(n-C4H9)3B has a boiling point of 170°C;(iso-C4H9)3B has a boiling point of 88°C (3.07kPa). Some of these compounds are also crystalline, such as phyllenyl boron. Tributylboron has the chemical formula (CH3CH2CH2CH2)3B. Molecular weight 182.20. Colorless liquid. Can spontaneously ignite. Melting point -34 ℃, boiling point 170 ℃(29.526kPa), relative density 0.74725, refractive index 1.4285. Soluble in most organic solvents, insoluble in water. |
| Preparation | The preparation of tributylboron is as follows: Add Mg powder and I2 (a little) to the three-mouth flask, then add BF3 • E2O newly steamed after drying and a certain amount of newly steamed anhydrous ether after drying. Mix bromobutane and ether into ether solution and put it into a constant pressure drop funnel. The reaction occurred after dropping 3-5mL, 12 reddish brown disappeared, and Mg powder boils. When the ether boiling tends to ease, drip the remaining solution in the drip funnel. The ether is made slightly boiling by adjusting the drip rate. After the bromobutane is completely dripped, heat and reflux with a water bath for 3h to complete the reaction and cool to room temperature. The whole reaction is protected by high purity N2 gas. The ether layer is transferred to a single-mouth flask, after the ether is distilled at normal pressure, then distilled under reduced pressure, three-base boron is distilled at 26666.6Pa and 2l7K, and stored in a closed manner. |
