phthalic anhydride is dissolved in fuming sulfuric acid, with iodine and iron powder as catalyst, bromine is added when heated to 75 ℃, and then the temperature is increased to 200 ℃ for reaction, the crude product was precipitated, filtered, washed with sulfuric acid and dried to produce a finished product. HBr, a by-product in the reaction, was absorbed with water for use. In addition, the phthalic anhydride is dissolved in chlorosulfonic acid, and sulfur and bromine are added for reaction to prepare tetrabromo phthalic anhydride.
