Polystyrene - References

Overview in recent years, styrene-divinylbenzene copolymers have been widely used in chromatography, ion exchange and catalyst preparation. Especially in the catalyst preparation, styrene-divinylbenzene copolymer with its excellent hydrophobicity get the attention of researchers. Generally, copolymers are prepared by the following four methods: bulk polymerization, suspension polymerization, solution polymerization, and emulsion polymerization. The products prepared by the bulk polymerization and solution polymerization methods cannot be directly made into dry granular resins. The product obtained by the emulsion polymerization method has a large molecular weight and a small particle size, usually only 5-10 μm, which is not suitable for use as a catalyst support. Copolymers with a diameter of less than 1mm can also be obtained by conventional suspension polymerization, which poses difficulties for practical applications. In the Eighties, a large particle styrene-two vinyl benzene copolymer was synthesized by Changping, a Japanese alum village. At present, there is no commercially available porous, large particle styrene-divinylbenzene copolymer suitable as a catalyst carrier in China, and no report on this aspect has been seen. In order to prepare large particle hydrophobic catalyst, on the basis of references, there is a study on the application of a solution suspension two stage polymerization method to obtain a diameter of (1.0-3.0)mm porous styrene-two ethylene benzene copolymer, the main conditions affecting the specific surface area of the polymer were investigated in detail.
Application styrene-divinylbenzene copolymer has been widely used in chromatography, ion exchange and catalyst preparation.
Use for latex coatings.
