| production method | 2-methylpyridine and methyl iodide were dissolved in isopropanol and reacted at 60-65 °c. After cooling, filtration, the filter cake was washed with isopropanol and recrystallized from ethanol to give the N-alkylated product. This and O-nitrobenzaldehyde were dissolved in acetic anhydride and refluxed. It was cooled, filtered, washed with a small amount of acetone and dried to give the solid product. The product was dissolved in ethanol and reacted with hydrogen at room temperature and normal pressure in the presence of platinum oxide. The catalyst was filtered off, ethanol was distilled off, dissolved in water, made alkaline with sodium hydroxide solution and extracted with ether. This ether solution was added dropwise with stirring an excess of 10% of p-methoxybenzoyl chloride and stirred at room temperature. Diethyl ether was decanted, and an aqueous solution of sodium oxychloride was added to the residue, followed by extraction with diethyl ether. The extract is washed, dried, and evaporated to dryness to give a pale yellow solid, which can be recrystallized from isopropanol, namely encainide. |
