1. Tetra-polyethylene glycol is dissolved in an anhydrous organic solvent.
2. Add Excess bromine while stirring the reaction mixture.
3. The reaction is carried out at low temperature, which usually takes several hours.
4. The product is filtered or extracted to give Ethane, 1,1-oxybis [2-(2-bromoethoxy)-.
