Application | 5-bromo-2-iodopyridine is an organic intermediate, which can be replaced by 2, 5-dibromopyridine with sodium iodide halogen. It has been reported in the literature that it can be used to prepare electrochromic compounds 1,1 "'-dihexyl-[4,3': 6 ', 2": 5 ", 4"'-tetrapyridine]-1,1 "'-dionium bis (tetrafluoroborate)(II-3a) and 1,1"'-dihexyl -1 ', 1 "-dimethyl-[4,3': 6 ', 2": 5 ", 4"'-tetrapyridine]-1,1 ', 1 ", 1"'-tetraonium tetra (tetrafluoroborate). |
Preparation | Water-based HI(57%) was added to 2,5-dibromopyridine (12.60g,53.2mmol) and NaI(11.40g,76mmol). The resulting mixture was heated under reflux for 24h, cooled and then diluted with water (100mL). The resulting mixture was alkalized with NaHCO3 and treated with Na2S2O4 until colorless. The mixture was extracted with DCM(5 × 60mL) and the dried (Na2SO4) solvent was removed under reduced pressure. The residue was collected by filtration and washed with Et2O(60mL) and air-dried to give 5-bromo-2-iodopyridine (8.28g,55%) in a light gray powder. |
