First, 2,6-difluorophenol is prepared by oxidizing 2,6-difluorophenol and ethylene. Then, by keto-alcohol interconversion reaction, 2,6-difluorophenol was reacted with ethanol to give Phenol, 4-ethyl-2,6-difluoro- (9CI).
