2. The sodium salt of 2,6-dimethylphenol reacts with methyl iodide to generate 4-methoxy -2,6-dimethylphenol.
3.4-methoxy-2,6-dimethylphenol reacts with trichloroacetic acid to generate 4-methoxy-2,6-dimethylol benzoic acid.
