22802-96-6 - Introduction

1,10-Phenanthroline hydrochloride (1,10-phenanthroline hydrochloride), also known as phenolphenanthrene hydrochloride, is an organic compound with the chemical formula C12H8N2 · HCl.

The compound is colorless crystal, soluble in water, alcohol and ketone, soluble in ether and petroleum ether. It has a neutral pH and is stable in dry air. Its melting point is about 200-205°C.

1,10-phenanthroline hydrochloride has important applications in chemical analysis, fluorescence analysis and coordination chemistry. It can be used as an indicator of metal ions, complexing agents, fluorescent dyes and chemical analysis reagents. The substance can be used to form complexes with metal ions for the analysis and enrichment of metal ions. In addition, 1,10-Phenanthroline hydrochloride can also be used as a catalyst for spectral analysis and organic synthesis reactions.

1,10-phenanthroline hydrochloride can be prepared by the following method: First, dissolve 1,10-phenanthrene in an appropriate solvent (such as ethanol), and then add hydrochloric acid solution, stir at low temperature. The precipitate produced by the reaction is simply washed and dried to obtain a pure product.

Safety precautions are required when using and handling 1,10-phenanthroline hydrochloride. It can enter the body through inhalation, skin contact and ingestion. Therefore, appropriate personal protective equipment, such as laboratory gloves and goggles, should be worn when using the substance. Avoid inhaling its dust or solution vapor, and avoid prolonged contact with skin and eyes. When stored, it should be kept in a dry, well-ventilated place, and stored separately from oxidants and strong acids. In the event of an accident, seek immediate assistance from a doctor and take the product label or container to the hospital as much as possible.
