Method:
The preparation of 2,2-difluoro-2-(3-fluorophenyl)ethan-1-ol can be carried out by the following reaction:
First, 3-fluorobenzaldehyde is reacted with sodium cyanate to obtain 3-fluorophenylformylacetonitrile. This acetonitrile is then reacted with boron tetrafluoride to produce 3-fluorophenylacetonitrile. Finally, 3-fluorophenylacetonitrile was reacted with 2,2-difluoroethanol to give 2,2-difluoro-2-(3-fluorophenyl)ethan-1-ol.
