introduction | 2-methyl -5,6,7,8-tetrahydroquinazoline -4-alcohol is an organic intermediate, which can be prepared by ring-closing cyclohexanone -2-carboxylic acid methyl ester and acetohydene hydrochloride. There are reports that it can be used to prepare fungicides for agricultural and horticulture. |
preparation | sodium metal (190mg) is dissolved in ethanol (20mL). Once the sodium reacts, the mixture is vacuum and the residue is added to the stirred mixture of cyclohexanone-2-carboxylic acid methyl ester (2.0g,1.28mmol) and ethylenebase hydrochloride (1.46g,1.53mmol) at ambient temperature. The reaction mixture was heated to reflux for 48 hours. The reaction mixture was cooled to ambient temperature, poured into water (30mL), and extracted with ethyl acetate (2 × 20mL). The organic phase is dried with magnesium sulfate, filtered and evaporated in vacuum. Output: 1.78g, yellow oil. |
