xylenol orange (also known as methyl orange) is an organic compound with the chemical formula C14H14N3NaO3S. It is an oxalate dye with an orange pigment.
xylenol orange is commonly used to stain biological tissues and cells, and is widely used in histology, cytology and immunohistochemistry. Because of its good staining effect and visibility, the dyed material can be clearly observed under a microscope.
The preparation method of xylenol orange mainly includes two steps: firstly, the azo compound is prepared by the condensation reaction of 2-methylaniline and ketone, and then it is reacted with sodium benzenesulfonate to obtain xylenol orange.
