2. Biphenylmalonic dianhydride is reacted with benzylamine in the presence of basic conditions to give 2-([1,1 '-biphenyl]-3-yl)-2-methylpropanoic acid.
3. Finally, 2-([1,1 '-biphenyl]-3-yl)-2-methylpropionic acid is reacted with hydrochloric acid to generate 2-([1,1'-Biphenyl]-3-yl)-2-methylpropionic acid hydrochloride.
