The preparation method of 5-chloro -2-methyl -3-pyridine carboxylic acid can be obtained by group transfer of pyridine group by methylation. A specific preparation method may be reacting 2-methyl-3-picolinic acid with phosphorus pentachloride (PCl5) to generate 5-chloro-2-methyl-3-picolinic acid chloride, and then reacting with water to form 5-chloro-2-methyl-3-picolinic acid.
