2-methyl quinoline -6-carboxylic acid methyl ester can be prepared by the following steps:
2-methyl quinoline and methyl formate are reacted with a common acid catalyst such as sulfuric acid at an appropriate temperature and reaction time to obtain methyl 2-methylquinoline-6-formate.
