MGCB solution turns from colorless to deep green rapidly when exposed to a high-pressure UV lamp (500 W, 50 W/cm). Malachite Green Carbinol base (MGOH, MGCB), a triphenylmethane leucohydroxide derivative, is used as a light-induced hydroxide ion emitter. Used for dyeing silk, wool, jute, leather, and cotton.
