In the process of manufacturing CMC, the main chemical reactions are: (1) alkaline reaction of cellulose and alkali aqueous solution to produce alkali cellulose; (2) alkali cellulose and sodium chloroacetate (or monochloroacetic acid) an etherification reaction occurs.
