| synthetic method | sodium hydride (0.0044g, 10 mol%), A dry reaction flask was charged with a mixture of cysterolborane (0.17 ML, 1.2 mmol) and 5 ml of tetrahydrofuran, and the flask was replaced with argon and fitted with a magnetic stir bar. The corresponding aldehyde (0.1 mL,1.0 mmol) was slowly added dropwise to the reaction mixture, and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 30 min. Quench to stop the reaction, then add 1N sodium hydroxide (2 ml) to the reaction mixture, and stir the resulting mixture at room temperature (25-27 °c) for 1 hour, the crude mixture was extracted with diethyl ether (2 x 10 mL) and finally the combined organic layers were dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate to give the target product 3-bromobenzyl alcohol.
