Abstract:
The interaction of N,N-dimethyldecylamine oxide (C10DAO) with salmon sperm DNA was studied by turbidity, UV absorption and surface tension measurements. The results showed that C10DAO could not induce DNA phase separation under neutral condition, and when the concentration of C10DAO-DNA system was higher than 6.0mmol/L, the turbidity of the system was transiently changed by electrostatic interaction when the critical pH was reached; when the concentration of C10DAO was in the range of 6.0mmol/L ~ 16.0mmol/L, the corresponding critical pH changed significantly. UV absorption and surface tension results also confirmed the existence of the interaction; Fluorescence quenching showed that the low degree of protonation of C10DAO can induce DNA conformation change.
