Physical and Chemical Properties | Chemical formula vcl3. Molecular weight 157.30. Purple hexagonal crystals. Deliquescence. The relative density of 3.0018(4 deg C), the melting point of 425 deg C decomposition, heat disproportionation reaction occurs. Soluble in ethanol, acetic acid, ether, benzene, chloroform, toluene and carbon disulfide. Dissolved in water to generate the decomposition of vanadium acid, hydrochloric acid and two chloride vanadium. The hydrated ion of trivalent vanadium is green, and generates hydrated coordination chloride with excess chloride ion, and generates ammonia compound by reaction with liquid ammonia. It reacts with gaseous ammonia to form nitrides, forms corresponding coordination compounds with amines and other organic compounds, and produces characteristic color reactions with certain aromatic hydroxy acids. It can be obtained by thermal decomposition of Vanadium tetrachloride or by the interaction of vanadium trioxide and disulfide chloride. Vanadium chloride can be used to prepare strong reducing agent vanadium dichloride and organic vanadium compounds, catalysts for organic synthesis and reagents for testing opium. |
