Use:
- 2-Methyl-4-piperidone is an important organic synthesis intermediate, which is widely used in the synthesis of pesticides, medicines and cosmetics.
-It can be used as a precursor for pesticides and insecticides, such as promethazine and promethazine oxide.
- 2-Methyl-4-piperidone also has antibacterial and bactericidal properties, so it is used as a bactericide and preservative.
Preparation Method:
- 2-Methyl-4-piperidone is usually prepared by the hydrogen oxidation of piperidine. First, piperidine and sodium hydroxide are reacted in alcohol to form the sodium salt of piperidine.
-Subsequently, the sodium salt of piperidine is reacted with formaldehyde to produce 2-methyl-4-piperidinol.
-Finally, 2-methyl-4-piperidinol is oxidized to obtain 2-Methyl-4-piperidone.
Safety Information:
- 2-Methyl-4-piperidone is irritating and may cause irritation in contact with skin and eyes.
-It is also toxic and should be avoided by inhalation or ingestion.
-Wear protective gloves and glasses when using, and operate in a well-ventilated place.
-Because it is flammable, it should be kept away from fire and high temperature.
-Should be stored in a cool, dry, ventilated place, and away from oxidants and strong acids.
-When using or handling this compound, please follow the correct process and safe operating procedures, and dispose of it appropriately as needed.
