Use | 2,3-dimethyl-5-bromopyridine is an organic intermediate that can be obtained by preparing 2, 3-dimethylpyridine in one step. It can be used as a pharmaceutical intermediate. |
Preparation | Bromine (0.3mL) was added dropwise to a solution of 2,3-dimethylpyridine (0.51mL) in fuming sulfuric acid (10mL) at 155°C for 2 hours. The reaction mixture was then heated at 155°C for 16 hours. After cooling to room temperature, pour the mixture on ice and adjust the ph to 10 with an aqueous sodium hydroxide solution. The product was extracted into ethyl acetate (3 × 40mL), and the organic layer was dried (MgSO4), concentrated under reduced pressure and purified on silica to give a yellow oily 2, 3-dimethyl-5-bromopyridine. |
