1647-08-1 - Introduction
Nature:
4,4-dimethy1-hexene is a colorless liquid with a strong pungent odor. It has a low boiling point and flash point and is soluble in many organic solvents, such as ethanol, acetone and carbon tetrachloride.
Use:
4,4-dimethy1-hexene is mainly used as a reaction intermediate in chemical synthesis. It can be used for additives, fragrances, esters and other organic compounds in synthetic rubber and plastics. In addition, it is also used in the preparation of certain polymers and organic synthesis reactions.
Method:
There are two main methods for preparing 4,4-dimethyl-1-hexene. One method is to make 4,4-dimethyl-1-hexene by reacting 1-hexene with isopropyllithium and introducing the methyl group by reaction with methylmagnesium chloride. Another method is by hydrogenation of 2,4, 4-trimethyl-1-hexene and hydrogen in the presence of a catalyst.
Safety Information:
4,4-dimethyl-1-hexene is very irritating and may cause irritation to the eyes, skin and respiratory system. It is recommended that you wear appropriate protective equipment such as gloves, goggles, and ventilation equipment when using or handling this compound. Avoid direct contact with skin and eyes, and make sure to operate in a well-ventilated place. If inhaled by mistake or contact with the skin, should immediately rinse with water, and timely seek medical help.
