Physical and Chemical Properties | White or off-white powder. Soluble in acid, alkali, insoluble in water, alcohol and ether. Odorless, tasteless, easy to deteriorate when exposed to light, and decomposed when exposed to boiling water. Preparation Method: from salicylic acid and bismuth hydroxide condensation obtained. The bismuth nitrate was stirred and emulsified with water, hydrolyzed to bismuth hydroxide with 30% aqueous ammonia, filtered, washed with water and then reacted with salicylic acid, and then the resulting bismuth subsalicylate was filtered out and washed with 50 ℃ water until neutral, drying, sieving, to obtain the finished product. Purposes: Anti-spirochete disease drugs. |
In vitro study | Bismuth Subsalicylate reduces inflammation/irritation of the stomach and intestinal lining by inhibiting prostaglandin G/H synthase 1/2. Bismuth Subsalicylate is the active ingredient in Pepto-Bismol, Pepto-Bismol an anti-diarrheal and antacid. In the gastrointestinal tract, Bismuth Subsalicylate is converted to salicylic acid and insoluble Bismuth salts. |
